From Chennai, many people travel by trains to their destinations in the north, west and southern districts in TN. As a result, the Chennai Central railway station and Egmore railway station are always brimming with passengers. Information is that more than 2 lakhs passengers travel from the Central railway station and more than 75000 travel from the Egmore railway station. It is true that many passengers suffer from cardiac arrest etc at these railway stations and lose their lives.
Now, to provide first aid to the passengers who have suffered cardiac arrest, these 2 important railway stations have been equipped with automatic external defibrillators. This equipment would be put to public use soon.
On behalf of a private hospital in Chennai and railway administration, these above-mentioned railway stations in Chennai have been equipped with modern equipment to provide treatment for those passengers who suffer sudden cardiac arrest.
In the Egmore railway station, these life saving equipment have been installed in 6 locations and at 7 locations at the Chennai Central railway station.
As per some officials at the Chennai division of SR it was clear that these AED or Automated External Defibrillator devices could be used to provide first aid treatment for those passengers with sudden cardiac arrest and for those who faints due to heart failure etc. It is now said that training would be provided to the railway employees regarding how to use the AEDs during emergency situations.
