The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Council has decided to increase the fine for burning solid waste in public places from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
Additionally, those caught dumping garbage in areas under the corporation`s jurisdiction will face a fine of Rs 1,000.
Dumping wood waste on roads will incur a penalty ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000, while shop owners who fail to provide garbage bins will be fined between Rs 100 and Rs 1,000.
The council also ruled that a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed if litter is not cleared from Marina Beach and Anna Nagar after public meetings and events.
