The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued an orange alert for 11 districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall from October 12 to 15. A low-pressure area over Lakshadweep and the Arabian Sea is expected to intensify into a depression, leading to downpours in Kanniyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi.
The orange alert will be in effect from Saturday, October 12, to Tuesday, October 15.

Additional warnings have been issued for heavy rain in the following districts:

- Chengalpattu
- Ghats of Coimbatore and Tirupur
- Pudukkottai
- Sivaganga
- Tiruchy
- Cuddalore
- Kallakurichi
- Villupuram
- Theni
- Dindigul
- The Nilgiris
Chennai Outlook
Chennai and its suburbs, which have already received light to moderate rain, are expected to see continued rainfall with thunderstorms during the night for the next two days.
Fishermen Advisory
Fishermen in southern Tamil Nadu, including the Gulf of Mannar and the Comorin region, have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to expected squally weather. Winds are predicted to reach speeds of 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, until next week.
