On Friday, 8th November, the minister for handlooms and Textiles Mr. R. Gandhi was very busy inspecting the site for the proposed textile park at Jayankondam.
He spoke about how a fourth textile park would come up at Jayankondam and it would start functioning in another 3 months. It must be noted that the CM of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin earlier announced that mini textile parks would be established across TN.
The textile minister explained that atleast 10 mini textile parks would be established across the state in the coming years as per the announcement from the chief minister. The good news is that, as a part of the announcement from the CM, a mini textile park would be coming up in Sengunthapuram near Jayankondam.
It is now brought out that Ariyalur district administration would initiate steps to renovate the already present building at the chosen place. Fifty power looms and another 50 handlooms would be installed in a new building. The district administration has been advised to finish the entire process within 3 months. Through this mini textile park, the weavers would be able to earn Rs 1000 to Rs 1500. Through govt run institutions, the materials that are produced in the park would be sold and a certain percentage of profit would be shared with the weavers and their families etc.
It must be recalled that on 14th of December in 1998 the Kumbakonam region was established and it covers districts of Thanjavur, Ariyalur and Perambalur with 48 weaver’s societies.
