The Hindu Religious Endowments minister Mr. P. Sekar Babu mentioned that within the end of 2024 Kumbabishegam would be held for 2500 temples in TN.
Yesterday, the planting function for kumbabishekam for the famous 900 year old Gangadeeswawar temple at Purasawalkam took place. It must be noted that kumbabishegam for this famous temple took place in 2008. At a cost of Rs 4.82 cr 36 repairs have been carried out. Since the DMK govt took over, kumbabishekam were held for 2265 temples. On 11tha dn 14th of November, kumbabishekam would be held for 60 temples and by the end of this year 2024 kumbabishekam would be held for 2500 temples in TN.
An amount of Rs 1103 crores for temple works was received from the sponsors. As many as 274 temples are being renovated at a cost of Rs 426.26 cr to protect and restore 1000 yr old temples. In 37 temples, kumbabishekam took place.
To carry out the restoration works in 10460 temples, regional and state level expert committees have given permission. In the last three and half years 20806 works worth Rs 5847 cr were taken up by the Hindu Religious Endowment dept and 9183 of those have been completed. It is worthy to mention here that temple lands of 7115.56 acres worth Rs 6847 cr were recovered and 175995 acres of lands were measured and protected. To prevent idol thefts in the temples, many precautionary steps have been taken also.
