The highly anticipated Chennai International Book Fair 2025 (CIBF 2025) will be held from January 16 to 18, 2025, at the Chennai Trade Centre, as announced by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Tuesday. The prestigious Bologna Children’s Book Fair from Italy has been named as the guest of honor for this year’s event.
Speaking at an award ceremony at the Anna Centenary Library, where he presented the Dr. S.R. Aranganathan Award to a librarian, the minister highlighted the growing scale and impact of the event.
“At CIBF 2025, we anticipate participation from 50 countries, with the signing of approximately 1,000 memoranda of understanding (MoUs). This marks significant growth compared to previous editions,” he said. In 2023, the inaugural CIBF saw participation from 24 countries and 365 MoUs signed, while the 2024 edition witnessed representation from 40 countries and 752 MoUs finalized.
To foster a love for literature among young readers, a dedicated children’s pavilion will be introduced this year, focusing exclusively on children’s books and literature. According to officials from the School Education Department, the pavilion will also host interactive sessions and discussions on children’s literature.
CIBF 2025 promises to be a global platform for literary exchange and collaboration, reinforcing Chennai’s status as a cultural and intellectual hub.
