Residents of Avadi, Poonamallee etc to get benefited - A new bridge across Cooum River in Chennai was opened!!

At a cost of Rs 18.50 cr, a new bridge was constructed over the Cooum River at Thiruverkadu in Chennai. On Tuesday, 11th February 2025, this new bridge was opened by Mr. E.V. Velu, minister for Highways. A causeway that was present previously used to get flooded during the monsoon season and it has been replaced by a 94m long and 17m wide bridge. The bridge has walkways and bicycle tracks etc and is pedestrian friendly. It is known that Cooum River is one of the shortest classified rivers draining into Bay of Bengal.

It must be taken into account that the residents of Veeraraghavapuram,Avadi, Poonamallee, Kaduvetti, Seneerkuppam etc would get benefited by this new bridge.

Various important personalities who made their presence felt during the opening ceremony of the bridge yesterday were minister for minorities Mr. S.M. Nasar, secretary of Highways Mr. R. Selvaraj and collector of Tiruvallur district Mr. M. Prathap etc.
