Chennai traffic disruptions and road accidents go hand in hand!!
At several locations in Chennai, the workers from GCC or greater Chennai Corporation have placed the garbage bins inside the carriageway. This has been causing traffic disruptions and road accidents etc now.
The residents of Chennai are unhappy now regarding the placement of garbage bins and they have complained about the increase in the road accidents. It is known that Pantheon Road and Whannels Road in Egmore are very busy. The placement of garbage bin on the white line marking the shoulder of Pantheon Road near Amma canteen near Albert Theatre has caused many accidents at the junction of these 2 roads.
It was later bought out by a Egmore resident that many persons have been injured due to road accidents at the junction. He pointed out that a portion of the road median was damaged due to an accident involving a bus as the garbage bin blocked the road. He spoke about how inspite of complaints the workers still placed the garbage bins on the white line. It must be taken into account that a separate concrete platform has been built to place the bin but the workers refuse to use it.
According to another resident from Egmore the garbage bins have been blocking the movement of vehicles along many roads like Langs Garden Road etc.
In Velachery, a resident spoke about how garbage bins placed along the bus routes were hindering traffic movement. Point is that the GCC workers have failed to place the bins in the designated place after clearing them.
In Purasawalkam, garbage bins were blocking the roads and have caused few accidents on the roads. This was as per ward99 councillor. According to an official from GCC, the civic body would ensure that the workers would place the garbage bins away from the white line marking the carriageway.
