A major power outage lasting more than 5 hours was responsible for disruption of power supply in localities like Nemilicheri, Melpakkam, Ramapuram etc on 19th April. As a result, the residents belonging to Thirunindravur, Pattabhiram and certain parts of Avadi had sleepless nights and found it difficult.  It is worthy to note that frustrated residents took to social media to voice their grievances.

A Nemilichery resident posted about the absence of power supply for over 2 hours and was frustrated with the poor maintenance for many years. It was brought to light by a resident from Melpakkam that her locality has been facing power outages for 3 hours every night.

It is worth noting that TNPDCL or Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited has issued a series of updates on X attributing the power outage to multiple technical faults on the feeder lines.

On 19th of April, at 11:12 pm, the 110kv Almathi- Thirunindravur feeder tripped due to a fault and failed to resume normal operation. Point to be noted is that a back feed was arranged temporarily from Pattabiram via the Avadi feeder and that too tripped around 2am on 20th of April.

Inspection was carried out by the TNPDCL officials and it was found that a jumper cut was found at Ramapuram village near EVP town. Truth is that the repair teams worked through early hours to resolve the issue. The damaged jumper was replaced and power supply was restored at 5am.
