Residents of Chennai could heave a sigh of relief now regarding safety!!
The latest sensational news is that at 50 locations in Chennai, Greater Chennai Police would deploy Red Button Robotic Cop with the main aim of enhancing public safety within a month.
It is noteworthy that this Robotic Cop would be equipped with the CCTV cameras that are capable of 360 degrees surveillance and panic buttons for real time communication facilities for the affected public for interacting with the police.
To use this tool in policing, the police personnel would be provided with special training. Anomalies in the public space would be detected by the robotic cop (equipped with state of art sensors and cameras) and authorities would be alerted immediately. The CCTV cameras that would cover 360 degrees would help in the investigations etc. This was according to the police department.
The law and order police personnel would provide the initial feedback and based on that the Robotic Cop would be installed at 540 locations across Chennai. This would be in the first phase. Various locations in Chennai where the Robotic Cop would be installed are shopping & transit hubs, IT Parks, places of worship and other crowd gathering places.
It was brought out by Chennai Police Commissioner Mr. Arun that the number of units would be increased to 200. To ensure a seamless response in the times of emergencies, the police dept is having plans to integrate Robotic Cop with Chennai`s current surveillance systems.
