More anxiety risks are present in women with larger waistline

Women play crucial role in our families as well in our society is well known. Health of women is very important if these women have to play their roles.

It is now said women who are little fat or having larger waistline have got more chances of getting anxiety and this has been confirmed by a new study.

From the study that was carried out on as many as 5580 middle aged women belonging to Latin America it is now confirmed that women in the middle and upper thirds of waist to height ratios are more likely to be affected by anxiety. The study also said that women in upper third were more likely to show signs of anxiety when compared to women in lower two thirds.

NAMS or North American Menopause Society is a non profit based organisation and its executive director JoAnn Pinkerton spoke about how hormonal changes may be the reason for both anxiety development as well as abdominal obesity. These hormonal changes play crucial part in brain plus in the fat distribution is known.

It must be noted that this study provides important insights for the healthcare providers treating middle aged women. Weight to height ratio as a means of evaluating patients affected with anxiety disorders was also mentioned by JoAnn Pinkerton.

One important point to be noted is women is considered obese if her waist measures more than half her height.

From the findings it is now said that 58 % of study population were post menopausal and 61.3 per cent had anxiety issues.

According to the researchers anxiety is a huge concern because of its link to many health problems like diabetes, heart diseases, thyroid issues etc. It is also revealed that middle aged women experience more anxiety issues due to low estrogen levels in them.

The studies were published in Menopause: The Journal of the North American Menopausal Society.
