It has a lot of essential nutrients and hence eggs are highly recommended for all those who are wishing to lose weight and get muscles built. Nevertheless, it is always a controversial topic whether to eat egg yolk or not. Being high in cholesterol, egg yolk is said to be very unhealthy and often said that it gives rise to heart problems. And when people wish to have flat ab, and develop six pack body, it is recommended that they eat only egg white and not the yellow. But is that really true?  Is it good not to eat the egg yolk when you want to lose weight? Are egg yolks really harmful?

Can you have egg yolk? Or, are they harmful?

The high cholesterol content in egg yolk is the reason for many people discarding the yolk, presuming it to be unhealthy. They eat only the white part and leave the yellow one. In eggs, there is just 186 milligrams of cholesterol all of which is seen only in its yolk part. Yes the yolk contains a lot of cholesterol content, but it is not a bad fat!

Each of us need cholesterol to produce testosterone that gives muscle strength and spikes our energy level.

In eggs, there is a lot of nutrients of which the white part has very high protein content. And the yolk contains the remaining nutrition. As far as the egg yolk is concerned, there is iron, vitamin B2, Vitamin D and a lot more nutrition which are not seen in egg white. So if you are of that kind who discard the egg yolk, you are probably missing a lot of nutrients.

According to a study conducted by the University of Connecticut, the fat content present inside egg white is helpful in fighting bad cholesterol. For all those who are thinking to lose weight, you do not have to dump the egg yolk and lose its nutritional values.

There is a lot of nutrition contained in whole eggs which includes 28 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbohydrates, and 0 grams of  fat and 137 calories on the whole in 8 egg whites, and there is 28 grams of protein and 2 grams of carbs and 21 grams of fat and 312 grams of calories in  4 whole eggs.

The verdict

Set aside the myth that egg yolks are not good for health when you wish to lose kilos. Rather than having only the egg whites, choose to go with 1 or 2 whole eggs in your entire diet.

As you are into a low carb diet, choose to go with whole eggs than just the egg white. There is very less calorie content in egg white and the fat content of whole eggs will reduce the rate at which proteins get absorbed and you will enjoy the feel of fullness for longer period. As they contain amino acids, it helps in bodybuilding as well.
