Who doesn’t like eating peanuts?

One of the crunchiest snacks that are eaten by most of us is peanuts. Truth is that peanuts are superb substitutes for processed snacks and chips etc. The nice feeling due to its crunchiness and taste we get would make us to eat more and more of them. Also known as moongfali in India, peanuts have lots of healthy fats plus poly and mono-saturated fats. It is superb to note that peanuts are rich in omega-6 fatty acids plus they have calories, proteins, carbohydrates, fiber etc also. Peanuts could provide us with many health benefits like cholesterol control, good heart health, prevention of gallbladder stones, good for weight loss etc.

Many of us consume peanuts in excess amounts and this could lead to few side effects in us.  These are

Weight gain:

When consumed in moderate or less amounts, peanuts could help in weight loss but when consumed in excess it could lead to putting on weight or weight gain. It is believed that a handful of peanuts would have 170 calories and while eating them it is easier to surpass the daily intake of 1600 to 2400 calories resulting in weight gain. So, please be careful.

Inhibit absorption of minerals:

It is important to mention that excess intake of peanuts could actually inhibit mineral absorption in us. The presence of phytic acid in peanuts could inhibit absorption of iron, zinc, calcium etc. This could result in mineral deficiencies also. There are also possibilities of phytic acid causing intestinal tract irritations, allergies etc in us on prolonged intake of excess peanuts.

High blood pressure or BP:

Though they have low amounts of sodium, salted peanuts intake could lead to increase in blood pressure. Pulling of water and fluids into the bloodstream could take place when we consume excess peanuts and this could create high BP in us.

Increase in inflammation:

This could also happen when we consume more peanuts every day. The presence of more omega-6 fatty acids in the peanuts than omega-3 fatty acids would lead to imbalance in the essential unsaturated fatty acids. This could finally lead to inflammation in us.

Issues due to intake of harmful additives:

The peanuts we eat mostly are not natural ones but purchased from the shops. It is obvious that peanuts from the stores would have additives. They could create a few issues for us in the long run.

Inhibits clotting of blood:

It is learnt that the presence of resveratrol in the peanuts could inhibit clotting of the blood. It is known that the blood clotting is a process that would prevent excess bleeding that would take place due to injury to blood vessels. Truth is that resveratrol could lead to persistent nose bleeding etc.
