How would you react if you come to know that the fruit skin that you peel and throw away has more nutritious content than the fruit itself? Surprised right!!
Many of us have the habit of peeling the skin off the fruit and throwing it away and eating just the fruit part. Point is that this must not be done just like that for all fruits.
The reason why we peel the skin and throw it away is because we have a feeling that the skin might contain germs and bacteria, chemicals and pesticides etc and by eating the skin we might get health issues. Not many of us know that the skin of certain fruits is highly nutritious. By throwing the skin, we would be depriving us of many important nutrients and hence it would be good to wash the fruit with skin well and eat it.
These fruits must be consumed without removing their skin.
Consume plum along with skin:
Present in various colors like dark purple, reddish skin with yellow flash, greenish yellow etc. It is known that plums are rich in many nutrients. The skin of plums has polyphenols that are plant compounds with antioxidant properties. By eating the skin we could avoid health conditions associated with oxidative stress. These plums could help us to avoid constipation issues.
Consume pear along with skin:
The skin of pear has fibers plus antioxidants and by eating the skin we could get regular bowel movements. Constipation can be avoided easily. There would be improvement in gut health also.
Consume kiwi along with skin:
It must be noted that the skin of these kiwi fruits has got fiber, folates, vitamins like C and E etc. By eating the skin our immunity would get boosted. By this, we would be able to avoid infections and diseases in us.
Consume apple along with skin:
Many of us just eat the fruit part of the apple, peel and throw away the skin. It is true that the skin of an apple has antioxidants including the anti-inflammatory compound quercetin. By eating the apple skin we could avoid degenerative diseases. The presence of triterpenoid in the skin would reduce the risk of developing cancer.
Consume chikoo along with skin:
There are various ingredients like vitamin C, antioxidants, minerals like iron and potassium present in chikoo skin. By eating the skin, our skin would glow well and our gut health would become better.
Consume grape along with skin:
It would be difficult to peel the skin of grapes. The skin contains the highest amount of antioxidants and we c could get many health benefits by consuming the fruit and skin together.
Consume tomatoes along with skin:
High amounts of flavonoid naringenin are present in the skin of tomatoes. Intake of tomato skin would help in the reduction of inflammation plus it would give us protection against diseases.
Consume mangoes along with skin:
The presence of carotenoids, omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols in the mango`s skin would provide us with many health benefits. So, don’t peel and throw away the skin.
