These days, many people complain about kidney stones. It must be noted that kidney stones are formed when substances like calcium oxalate, uric acid etc form in large amounts in the urine and not get dissolved. In urethra, urinary bladder or in the ureters etc, kidney stones could form is a well known fact. Factors that can lead to the formation of kidney stones in a person are genetics, environmental, high urine calcium levels, obesity etc. It is possible to avoid or prevent formation of kidney stones if we avoid or not eat certain foods.

Various foods that must be avoided to prevent the formation of kidney stones in us are

Avoid spinach:
It is believed that spinach has got moderate quantities of both soluble as well as insoluble oxalate. It is a green leafy flowering plant seen growing in central and western Asia. It must be noted that intake of calcium rich foods with spinach could reduce the absorption of soluble oxalate.

Avoid beetroot:
By eating beetroot, beet greens etc we are at a high risk of getting kidney stones. It is worthy to mention here that persons who have a tendency to develop kidney stones etc must avoid eating beetroot.

Avoid rhubarb:
Belonging to the family Polygonaceae, rhubarbs are fleshy edible stalks of species and hybrids of Rheum. This vegetable has high amounts of oxalate in them. It would be possible to reduce soluble oxalate content in rhubarb by boiling and steaming the vegetable in water or cooking it in milk etc.

Avoid kale:
Not many of us would know that eating kale in excess amounts would lead to kidney stones formation. Kale is rich in oxalate and consuming kale must be avoided by those persons who are prone to kidney stones.

Avoid sweet potatoes:
It is said that persons with kidney issues must not eat sweet potatoes or they must restrict the intake of sweet potatoes. This is because of the fact that sweet potatoes are rich in oxalate.

Avoid peanuts:
It has been brought to light by a research study that intake of excess peanuts could lead to oxalate nephropathy. Point to be noted is that 100gms of peanuts could provide187 mg of oxalate. When oxalate crystal deposits are formed in the kidneys, then we could get oxalate nephropathy resulting in inflammation etc.

Avoid cocoa powder:
It is revealed that cocoa powder obtained from organically grown cocoa beans has less oxalate than cocoa powder obtained from cocoa beans grown in a conventional way. The presence of high oxalate content in both cocoa as welell as cocoa processed products make these highly unsuitable for those persons who have kidney issues.

Avoid almonds:
Both soluble as well as insoluble oxalates are present in almonds. Hence, those persons with kidney issues must avoid intake of almonds. It is well known to us that almond intake could provide us with numerous health benefits like lowering bad cholesterol, controlling blood sugar levels, and lowering BP. It must be noted that almonds intake would make us full and we would not consume extra foods.
