The work on the Retteri flyover began in August 2016.

Now, the work on the second Retteri flyover in Chennai has been accelerated by the Highways Department and it will be completed by the end of this month.

Sources belonging to the Highways department mentioned that the department has paced up the work to complete the main portion of the flyover in the next 10 days and then complete other miscellaneous works. Information gathered is that the flyover would be thrown open to the public from the end of February onwards.

The lockdown due to Coronavirus infection has led to the delay in the works and the works should have been over by now. This uni-directional flyover is being built at an amount of Rs 41.07 crores is known. Another cause for the delay was because of the active monsoons.

The sources have added that ramp work on the flyover approach from Madhavaram side has been completed and the ramp works on the Koyambedu side are going on now. The work would be over in another 10 days. It is now said that once the second flyover gets opened then the highway department would take up the pedestrian subway work. Undertaking both the subway and flyover work together would be an issue as it would affect the vehicle movement.

It is important to mention that the traffic congestion has eased at the busy junction of Jawaharlal Nehru Salai- Perambur Paper Mills Road- Perumbur RedHills Road due to the completion of concrete work.
