‘Early to bed and early to rise’ is that phrase that is most widely said, believed and advised to children. If you are one of those believers, you ought to check this out.
According to a recent US-based study, it is said that the practice of early school hours will hamper academic scores of teenagers and make them deprived of adequate sleep.
According to city doctors, this finding is true indeed as there are schools in more numbers that get opened during the early hours of the day, around 7am. Speaking to a doctor from Nithra Sleep institute, she says this leaves children with inadequate sleep between their bed time and school hours.
A study conducted by Rush University Medical Centre, Chicago states that though children of adolescent age require nearly nine hours of sleep, older ones remain awake for more hours compared to younger ones. Inadequate sleep has its effects on the academic performance, creates mood swings, and leads to obesity and depression.
Doctors say it is the natural tendency for teenagers to stay awake during late hours. As they need to rush up for school the next day, they lack in taking enough sleep.
