For every woman, the crowning glory is obviously her hair. This when damaged will leave you with a bad hair day. Split ends are one of those that leave your hair unhealthy and look too bad! Almost every woman would have experienced this in her life, but have you ever thought of why it happens to you and the causes/reasons of it? Let’s know:

What is split end?

Split end is the splitting of your hair at its end. In case of severity in split ends, your hair gets split into multiple divisions which further worsens the condition of your hair. If you have lengthy tresses which need better care, you are more prone to get split ends.

Causes of split ends:

When you are stressed too much – physically or mentally, your body experiences pain and that naturally reflects in your hair as well. Your hair turns too coarse when it is subjected to too much of chemicals, thermal or mechanical stress. It loses its sheen and this gives rise to split ends. Possibilities are that the natural oil contained in your hair may get dried and your hair may be left dehydrated without any moisture at all.

Straightening:

Straightening or curling your hair involves heating your hair up and give it the desired shape. These take away the moisture from your hair and your hair may turn dry and brittle all of which readily invite split ends.

Blow drying your hair:

When you blow dry your hair, this again leaves your tresses damaged and dried inviting split ends. Remember that it is not always important to blow dry your hair. Do it only when you really need it when it is of extreme importance. Even while doing, make sure to have the setting of your drier in its minimal level so as to prevent damage.

Hair coloring or highlights:

Chemicals – these have the tendency of damaging the natural composition of your hair. Not just that, you hair loses its natural texture too. Hair that is colored more often can easily get rough and get split in its ends. Use of natural colors will be the best alternative instead of chemical based ones.

Strong shampooing:

It is likely that when your hair is colored, your hair specialists would have advised you to use special shampoos or conditioners. Following the same, you would be torturing your hair subjecting it to strong shampoos that are terribly damage causing agents to your hair.

Combing:

Do you vigorously comb your hair? No worries, most women make this mistake. Vigorous combing of hair can leave them weakened. Be gentle on your brushing practice with your hair. One of the most common reasons for split ends is brushing and drying wrongly.

Genetic conditions and reasons:

While it may be an alien to you, it is genetic to few others. They call it Trichorrhexis nodosa a condition that indicates defect in your hair shaft. In this condition, your hair will be think at one point and thin at the other. Owing to this unevenness in your hair, split ends can always be possible.

Keep split ends at bay:

·         Be clear with the styling you want

·         Know your hair and know what it needs

·         Pamper you hair the way it wants

·         Get it trimmed once in two or three months

Not just these, you need to take care of your physical condition with proper food and healthy habits. Never forget the practices your grandma followed – the practice of applying oil on hair when you were a little child. This is good even now, and that’s the best way in fact. While travelling under hot sun, make sure to cover your hair and be courteous to your hair at all times. Don’t get stressed, your tresses will undergo too. Opt for natural remedies always.
