A new study claims that getting into the practice of exercising half an hour for 6 days a week will cut down on the risk of death in elderly men by nearly forty per cent. This research was based on the people who are a part of Oslo Study that invited over 26000 men whose birth year falls between 1923 and 1932 and a health check in 1972-3 was done on them.
The study also stated that it brought no significant change in death risk by exercising lesser than one hour per week. However, working out more than one hour reduced the risk of death by 32 per cent to 56 per cent. At the same time, by exercising vigorously for less than one hour reduced the risk of death by the range 23% and 37% which mainly brought down the risk of cardiovascular disease and other forms of risk as well.
It seems the risk of death is lesser with the increase in time period spent on vigorous exercising. This pulls down the risk by 36% and 49%. Furthermore, men enjoyed longer lifespan by 5 years if they had exercised vigorously during their leisure time period.
