We generally do not use cashew fruits as much as we use the nuts.

The main reason for less usage of cashew fruit .is the presence of a chemical known as ‘tannin’.

This chemical causes irritating sensation in the throat while eating cashew fruit.

This can be overcome by steaming the fruit for 10 minutes or soaking in salt water for 10 minutes.

Cashew fruit is also rich in nutrients just like mango, jack-fruit, and orange.

It is notable that cashew fruit contains 5 times more vitamin ‘C’ than orange!

Vitamin ‘C’ produces the body resistance against fevers & illnesses.

It strengthens the nails and gums. Vitamin ‘C’ arrests bleeding in the gums.

Vitamin ‘C’ is the best known medicine for curing ‘scurvy’.

It also acts as a disinfectant and is used for curing infectious diseases.

Cashew fruit also contains protein, beta-carotene, and fibre.

‘Tannin’ in cashew fruit acts as an anti-oxidant.

Hence, nutritiously rich cashew fruit can be used for making juices, syrups, jam, and candies and consumed.
