In patients suffering from diabetic neuropathy, omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil can help in restoration of nerve damage, according to a new study. Lead investigator of the study Mark Yorek of VA medical centre in Iowa City said diabetic neuropathy involves lot of expenditure and has complications that are debilitating. This can even lead to foot ulcer or nontrauma-related amputations.

Use of fish oil is very easy and effective method of treatment. Compared to other medicines, these are easy to take and has lesser side effects.

This study involved the use of a mouse to study the fish oil effects. This study saw in untreated diabetic mice, a diminished sense of touch on paws. Also only fewer nerves were found in the eyes of untreated mice.
