Dietary Trans fatty acids (DTFA) are known to improve the taste, texture and durability of food items that are processed. But are you aware that these can worsen memory function in men?

A research was recently conducted by the University of California. The research involved studying 1018 men and women. They were all asked to complete a dietary survey and a memory test too. This memory test involved word recall. Men of the age 45 were able to recollect nearly 86 words on an average. However, their performance were found to drop by 0.76 words for each of the addition consumption of trans fat. According to Author Beatrice A. Golomb, trans fat is linked to worsening memory in men mainly in heir high productivity years.

Also, trans fatty acids are linked to negative effects on lipid profiles, resistance to insulin, metabolic functions, inflammation and cardiac and general health too.

It can be better said that trans fat can increase shelf life of food, but will hugely decrease that of people who consume it. The result of the study got published in the Journal PLOS ONE.
