Studies have shown that eating Vitamin C supplements on a daily basis has the same effect as walking. This will improve the health of obese people. According to researchers at the University of Colorado, overweight people who miss their regular exercise can take Vitamin C pills daily and maintain cardiovascular health.
Researchers studied 35 overweight or obese people who led sedentary lives. These people were studied over a period of three months. The scientists tried to determine if Vitamin C supplements could lower ET - 1 activity. ET 1 i.e. endothelin 1 is a small vessel constricting protein. During the study, 20 of the participants took daily supplements and 15 had aerobic exercise daily. The results showed that 500 mg of Vitamin C a day decreased the ET 1 related vessel constriction just as much as walking did. The researchers will present their paper at the 14th International Conference on Endothelin: Physiology, Pathophysiology and Therapeutics.
