Many, if not most, people suffer from stress at work. Studies have shown that work related stress is as harmful as second hand smoke. According to research, factors such as job insecurity and long working hours cause stress and have a direct link to health. These increase the risk of illness and even early death.

A study conducted at Harvard University has suggested that job stressors like the following undermine health. One: if a person was employed at all, the number of long working hours, if he does shift work. If the person does not have work life balance. Two: If the person gets support and opportunities socially, along with the perceived level of fairness in the office  - organisational justice. And three: the amount of control the person has over his work and the overall demands of the job.
