Cholesterol from eggs not unhealthy, says study

A new study has said that cholesterol in eggs does not hurt the heart or result in health risks. Earlier, it was believed that eating an egg a day increases cholesterol levels and, so, affect the heart.

The dietary habits of 1000 middle aged men were studied over a 20 year period. Results showed that eggs were not related to cholesterol levels in the study group. The study also addressed the belief that people who have a gene called APOE4 were more affected by cholesterol from eggs, and that greater cholesterol intake had a greater impact on them. The APOE4 gene is also associated with Alzheimer`s disease. However, the study showed that there was no correlation between the cholesterol levels in those who had this gene and the cholesterol that came from eggs.

In fact, eggs are packed with nutrition. Of course, like every other food, they have to be eaten in moderation. Eggs contain Vitamin A, Folate, Choline, Vitamins B5, B12, B2, Phosphorus, Selenium, Vitamins D, E, K, B6, Calcium and Zinc. The cholesterol in the eggs is an excellent source of protein.
