Dengue attack likely again - 10 suggestions from the state government for protection

Minister S P Velumani gave 11 suggestions to prevent the spreading of infectious dengue fever during the monsoon rains.

Minister S P Velumani conducted a review meeting on 15th July in the government Secretariat regarding the preventive measures to avoid the spreading of dengue fever and other infectious diseases taken by the local administration centres.

The minister gave suggestions on the prevention activities to be undertaken in 12 city corporations, including Chennai and 124 city administrations,and 528 local administration centres.
·         Ensure the distribution of clean water. Ensure the minimum quantity of 0,2 ppm of chlorine in the drinking water.

·         Ensure addition of chlorine in open wells and overhead tanks.

·         Ensure that the water does not stagnate in houses and other open spaces (tyres, coconut shells, and open tanks).

·         Clean the rainwater drainage system regularly and ensure that drain water is not stagnated. Ensure the mosquito repellent sprays at regular intervals.

·         All city corporations and local administration officials must visit t spots to check the cleaning activities. Eradicate all the possible breeding centres for mosquitoes.

·         Eradicate the ATS mosquitoes completely. Ensure spray of smoke and disinfectants in the areas of stagnant water and inside the residential areas.

·         Ensure immediate removal of piled garbage dumped by the public  in unoccupied areas even if they are private properties.Ensure sufficient stock of drugs for the eradication of mosquito eggs and worms.

·         Ensure sufficient quantity of smoke sprayers. Order new ones if required.

·         Members of the women self-help groups and social service enthusiasts should cone forward to dedicate themselves in this activity for prevention of infectious diseases. They should help create public awareness.

·         Distribute leaflets, organise processions and create awareness programmes through educational and public contact media.

·         In the areas which are affected, take activities on a ‘war-footing’ basis to ensure treatment and prevention activities by forming teams and joining with the Health Department officials.

The minister had a review on other issues like city administration, panchayat administration, and road facilities, drinking water facilities and sewage water management under the charge of the city and local administration.
