Preventive measures for Dengue ready: Health department staff hyperactive

The residents of the districts which are prone to be affected by diseases during the monsoon rain seasons, such as Kanchipuram, are really anxious as the symptoms of ‘Dengue’ fever has been detected in a few cases.

The district Health Department has gone full strength in various activities for prevention of spreading Dengue. A control centre has been set up in the district.

Dengue fever is through infections of the mosquitoes which bite during the noon sessions. If dengue is detected early, it can be cured easily. Otherwise, the dengue fever may worsen affecting the blood and leading to loss of life.

The severity or the impact of the dengue fever is based on the different individual physical resistance level. As a girl was found to have symptoms of Dengue fever, the department of health sprang in to activities for prevention of the spread of dengue fever. The data of the patients from the 13 government hospitals in the district is gathered for analysis and action depending on the intensity and extent of affection from the patients’ records. Tablets and medicines are given to the patients affected.

Special Staff

In the district, 390 employees and 1670 nurses have been deployed in the prevention and treatment activities. They make house-to-house visits offering advises and medicines for those affected with fever.
If the fever continues for long periods, a blood test is to be taken for further treatment. This blood test is conducted at the Kanchipuram Government General Hospital, Chingleput Medical college Hospital, and Sripreumpudhur Government Hospital.

The drinking water distributed must be chlorinated. For a tank with a capacity of 1000 litres of drinking water, 4 grammes of chlorine has to be added. Mosquitoes would not lay eggs on chlorinated water. Even the rats’ urine will not affect. Diseases such as typhoid will be prevented by chlorination.

In order to control the multiplication of mosquitoes, sprayers with ‘Pyrethrum’ ( a mixture of 19 litres diesel and 1-litre pyrethrum) should be used for spraying. Kanchipuram district has 22 large size sprayers. Chingleput has 36 large disinfectant sprayers and 36 small ones.Kanchipuram has 3 large vapour sprayers and 5 small ones.
The mosquitoes which cause dengue fever tend to multiply in rainwater and normal water . The mosquitoes are present in the daytimein houses, schools, colleges, and offices. This mosquiotoe can fly only 500 metres. So, if any symptoms are found, the health department distributed prevention tablets.

Prevention of stagnant water is the best action for preventing dengue fever. The health department staff are spreading awareness about  dengue fever and its prevention.
