It is most commonly known to everyone that stress doubles up obesity with time. A recent study claims that relaxing yourself without being too much concerned about calorie counts and setting free from other personal issues can actually help in shedding kilos.
The research was conducted by researchers at University College London (UCL). This involved studying 2,527 men and women of the age 50 and above. Their level of cortisol which is the stress hormone was measured out of 2cm clippings of hair. This length of hair is equivalent to 2 months’ growth.
Considering different aspects including age, sex, smoking habits, diabetes, etc, it is found that there is increase in body weight, BMI or waist circumference of a person with increase in cortisol levels. High levels of cortisol have its impact on persistent obesity with time.
The lead author of the study Sarah E. Jackson said it is not really possible to eliminate stress completely from our lives. However, we can identify different ways of controlling it and making ourselves happier. Well, a simple realization that stress can induce you to eat more will help you avoid it. The study results are published in Obesity, a journal.
