Heart is an important organ in us and the health of the heart is very important. Cholesterol determines the health of the heart.
These days we see many around us getting affected by issues like heart failure, heart attacks, strokes etc. The truth is the great emphasis is placed on the healthy diet and active lifestyle for the health of the heart to be in good shape.
For the purpose of building healthy cells, our body needs cholesterol. Important point is high cholesterol levels could lead to heart diseases in us. Sometimes, fatty deposits could build in the blood vessels and this could result in high blood pressure, reduced supply of blood to some parts etc.
It is known that cholesterol is of 2 type namely good cholesterol or HDL (high density lipoprotein) and bad cholesterol or LDL (low-density lipoprotein). Build-up of fat in the arteries could be due to the bad cholesterol. On the other hand, good cholesterol does not get deposited on the walls of the arteries. Our heart could be protected against various diseases by means of healthy good cholesterol or healthy HDL levels.
By consuming these foods it is possible to increase the HDL in us.
Consuming beans and legumes:
Vegetables such as beans, legumes etc are stapled part of Indian diet is known. It is said that intake of rajma or kidney beans or chickpeas or dal could lead to high levels of good cholesterol or HDL in us. Issues like heart attacks, strokes etc get reduced.
Consuming whole grains:
Many of us eat whole grains like daliya, ragi, whole wheat, barley etc in our households. Intake of these whole grains could result in the high levels of good cholesterol in us. Heart health gets improved.
Consuming high fibre fruits:
The desserts, snacks etc we eat have fruits in it and HDL levels in us could be boosted by the intake of high fibre rich fruits. Some examples of fibrous fruits are guava, banana, pomegranate etc.
Consuming nuts:
The presence of plant sterols in the nuts like almonds, pistachios, peanuts etc could block the absorption of cholesterol in us.
