One of the problems encountered during the winter season, especially women, is the drying of the skin.  The skin gets dried during the winter season, especially because of the excess snow/dew in the atmosphere and also due to the reason the we take a lesser quantum of water as compared to summer!

To protect the skin from this adverse condition, one can apply face-packs – made from ingredients easily available in the home!  However, while avoiding unnecessary extra efforts, it is just sufficient if we take a little extra care on our daily chores! Here is the list:
  • The first is drinking water! We have the regular habit of taking the daily required intake of drinking water. However, since we do not feel frequent thirst during the winter season, we tend to reduce the quantum of the drinking water! So, even by keeping a reminder on the cell-phone, ensure regular intake of drinking water- at least a minimum total of 3 litres per day!
  • The 2nd – take more food in liquid form! Instead of taking fruits directly, taking fruit juice instead will ensure meeting the body drinking water demand! This will ensure that the skin does not tend to dry!
  • Avoid snack items, oil-fried food items, and ‘fast-food’ items!
  • Time permitting; please undertake light physical exercises wither in the house or outside! Or, undertake a walk for half-an-hour when time is available. Doing light/heavy physical exercises enhances blood circulation. It also ensures that the skin gets the required oxygen and the nutrients!
  • Avoid taking items with excess sugar. Also, reduce the intake of coffee or tea. Instead, change over to black tea, green tea, or tea with ginger and cardamom. When the intake of sugar is at the required limit, the body weight tends to reduce and also the facial glow will get enhanced! Using jaggery or country-made sugar (nattu sarkkarai in Tamil), instead of sugar will help boost the immunity against the attack of diseases!
  • Ensure to add some of the food items having the property of providing skin-protection – orange, gooseberry (nellikkaai), lemon. Pineapple, cauliflower, strawberry which are rich in Vitamin C!
