One of the most common issues of teeth is tooth decay or dental caries.
This dental caries or tooth decay is a major public health issue and is the most widespread non-communicable disease or NCD. This was according to the World Health Organisation or WHO.
In some persons, the outer layer of the enamel of the teeth gets damaged and there would be tiny holes and openings. Many factors are responsible for this issue like bacterial infection, excess intake of sugary foods and drinks, frequent snacking dry mouth, poor oral hygiene etc.
Initially the cavities would be smaller but later on they would become bigger and would cause huge discomfort to the person.
Various signs that would indicate the presence of tooth decay are
Presence of tooth stains:
In the beginning, there would be a white spot which would darken and would become brown-black stains or discolouration. So, take care.
Presence of a hole or pit:
Around the stained area, a pot or hole occurs and sometimes in severe cases could result in teeth fractures.
Presence of unpleasant sensations:
The tooth decay or dental caries would lead to wearing of enamel of the teeth and this would lead to exposure of dentin layer that is present below the enamel. When we consume too hot or too cold foods, then the nerve endings would get stimulated and we could get unpleasant sensations.
Sensation to sweet foods:
It is revealed that intake of sweets might lead to unpleasant lingering sensation in the mouth.
Presence of toothaches:
The pulp of the teeth gets invaded by the tooth decay when not treated. Pulp is soft tissue in the tooth consisting of nerve endings and blood vessels. Truth is that there would be severe pain in the teeth and in advanced cases there would be abscess too.
