Do you eat late at night and sleep without giving any time gap, then be careful!!
Men are prone to various cancers like lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach and liver whereas women are prone to breast, colorectal, cervical, stomach, thyroid etc. It is 100% true that cancer is the second leading reason for many deaths across the world. This was according to the World Health Organization or WHO. To reduce the risk of getting cancer, we must take care of the foods we consume. Point is that not only what we eat but also when we eat could be a factor for cancer.
It was brought out by a research study from the Barcelona Institute of Global Health that the time of eating would determine who might have risk of developing cancer.
The study has revealed that those persons who eat after 9pm in the evening and do not leave a gap of 2 hours after consuming food have greater risk of getting cancer. These persons have 25% more chances of getting cancer than others.
The sleep-wake cycle in us gets regulated by the circadian biological clock and it repeats roughly every 24 hours. This is also termed as circadian rhythm. It is noteworthy that when the body clock is functioning normally and moving as it is expected then by 9pm or after the body would be unwind for sleep.
When a person eats after 9pm then his or her body would become more active and it would affect circadian rhythm leading to issues in sleep, would make us hungry and increase stress etc.
For this research study, as many as 872 males and 1372 females were considered. Truth is that they have never worked in the night shifts. The questionnaires and interviews etc asked these persons about their food, sleep etc.
It was found out that those persons who said that they slept 2 or more than 2 hours after eating food were at 20% lower risk of getting prostate and breast cancers combined. The risk of getting these cancers went up by 25% with eating late at night.
It was brought to light by IARC of WHO in 2007 that shift work lead to circadian disruptions and it is a change in the sleep pattern and this is cancer causing for humans.
A 24hour cycle is being followed by our body clock and it controls our wakeup time, our appetite, our body temperature and our mood. Any disruption in these would lead to cancer development.
