Aiming to prevent stroke and coronary artery diseases, Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP) kick-started a mission for early detection of these diseases and to initiate an awareness campaign among the people.

Following the results obtained in a pilot project recently organized, TNHSP is now eyeing on over 17 lakh patients who are found to have hypertension or diabetes. These patients will be given necessary treatment methods. These patients are set to get involved in a vigorous detection of cardio vascular diseases (CVD) and methods to prevent complications like stroke and coronary heart disease.

This urgent step is taken owing to the elevated possibility of health troubles in people due to changes in lifestyle habits and other alarming signs of several health surveys that point India to be likely on the risky side of higher incidence of CVD cases and diabetes mellitus by next year 2025.

The survey carried out by TNHSP saw alarming results from places including Vilupuram, Virudhunagar, Theni and Sivagangai. Over 27,000 samples were obtained. On looking at the body mass index and blood pressure levels, it is seen that people are at growing risk of getting cardio vascular diseases.
