Know how to prevent kidney stones

Surge in temperature and humidity is not very often related with kidney stones. But according to urologists, there is a deep link between the two. With the rise in temperature rises the chance of occurrence of kidney stones by 40 per cent, they say.
 
Those who work under very high temperatures and those who do not consume water more often are likely to get affected by kidney stones. When there is a hike in temperature by 5 to 7 degrees, the possibility of occurrence of kidney stones rises by 30 per cent. When individuals migrate from a warm place to a hot or warm one, there will be huge surge in possibility of kidney stone formation. This stone disease has got a very notable geographical variation. People living in hot, dry climate are more prone to kidney stones.
 
Dehydration is a major reason for kidney stones which in turn is due to rise in temperature. Consumption of less quantity of water and too much of sweating contribute to the incidence of kidney stone. This water loss will lead to higher urine concentration that in turn forms kidney stones.
 
How to prevent kidney stones?
  • Drink plenty of water – this is the first and foremost advice given by doctors. Keep your body hydrated continuously. If you do not tend to urinate every couple of hours, it indicates that you lack in consuming enough water. Your body needs to urinate at least 2.5 litres of urine every day 
  • Lemonade greatly helps reduce the risk of kidney stones
  • Products rich in oxalates are to be avoided. This can lead to the formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones. Soda, iced tea, strawberries, nuts, chocolates, etc contain oxalates
  • Reduce the amount of salt you use in food. This should be made your regular practice
  • Consult your doctor and request for prescriptions and recommendations for kidney stones
  • Caffeine intake has to be reduced as it will leave your body dehydrated nevertheless consumption of liquids in large amount
  • Shed kilos and get fit. Get into the practice of regular exercising
  • Consume more of salads as it helps maintain water level in your body by keeping you hydrated
  • Have an eye on the animal protein you intake. This includes meat, fish, egg etc. They contain purine which are naturally helpful in metabolizing – the process of breaking down into uric acid
