Midlife weight gain is very common among both men and women. In case of women, the weight gain is attributed to menopause. They undergo changes with hormone which creates havoc in their physique.

Anyway, is midlife weight gain inevitable? Studies were made on weight gain during middle age, and the possible ways in which this can be prevented in women during menopause. According to these results, women who are menopausal or postmenopausal gain weight especially in their midsections compared to those who already went through the phase. However, the reason for such a weight loss is not so clear.

A recent study was made and results were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. This involved giving a brief on factors like age, menopause, lifestyle practices, etc that accounted for weight gain in women during their midlife. This involved studying about 3000 women in US. It was observed that women who were active did not gain much weight.

In yet another study, both men and women were studied on their pattern of weight gain. This involved observing them for a course of 20 years. This again resulted stating those who are active did not gain much weight.
