Scientists have studied about the feel of emptiness on consumption of fruit salads and have come up with the reason behind it. The researchers from the University of Southern California have discovered that a feel of hunger is created by the naturally occurring sugar found in fruits. This sugar is called fructose which leaves the eater desire for more food.

The research involved 24 volunteers. They were made to view the images of high-calorie food items and other non-food items when they were consuming either glucose or fructose. After this, they were told to give a rate of their desire to eat food and hunger.

The research result discovered that those who took fructose had higher levels of hunger than those who consumed glucose. Speaking about it, the researchers say consumption of fructose will result in increased activation of brain regions that is involved in attention and reward processing. This in turn will promote the behavior of feeding.
