Diabetes should not deter anyone from having a normal life

Type 1 diabetes is a difficult condition in adults - more so in children. However, a diabetes consultant says that they can also lead normal lives.
According to consultant, over one lakh children in India have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. A senior consultant in diabetes and endocrinology,says that a new insulin inhaler, which is similar to the asthma pump, has been launched in the US. She is hopeful that it will be available in India soon. Till then, the condition should not deter children and adults alike from leading a normal life and going about a regular routine.
‘Parents need not be apprehensive over the safety and health of their kids with type 1 diabetes while travelling provided certain measures are in place to manage the health conditions’, Says consultant. ‘In fact, such kids can grow up like normal persons and take up any profession except certain jobs like pilot or operating heavy machinery. A vial of 300 units is available for Rs. 100 in the open market.’
