A recent report from UNICEF indicates that more number of women and children in Tamil Nadu are getting affected by anaemia.
Tamil Nadu-Kerala UNICEF President Job Zachariah met the press reporters in this regard. He informed that there is a loss of Rs. 8000 Crores incurred every year in Tamil Nadu due to anaemia.
He also informed that over thousand women die every year during delivery due to anaemia.
There has been a reduction only to the extent of 7% in the incidence of anaemia affected women in the last 14 years.
He emphasised that the state government should make immediate arrangements that 52 iron tablets should be distributed through all government schools & government-aided schools.
