The Journal of Neuroscience has published a study by researchers at Stony Brook University that claims that the position in which a person sleeps plays a role in health and personality. The team studied sleeping positions and the resulting brain processes in rodents. The study also has an explanation for the connection between sleep and neurological diseases.
The different positions studied were on the side, on the stomach, on the back, curled or in foetal position.
For example, the study says that sleeping on the side will allow the brain to empty the waste products in it - effectively empty the `recycle bin`. This reduces the risk of diseases like Alzheimers. Sleeping on the side is also good for the spine and the neck. This ensures a good night`s sleep and the individual is less prone to injuries and has better overall health.
