A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine has said that the benefits of exercise will be reduced considerably if you spend most of your time sitting. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Toronto.
The scientists examined 47 studies. They asked people details of their exercise routine and how much time they spent sitting. They also studied the participants rates of heart diseases, diabetes, cancer and death from any cause. According to the results, those who sat more had a 90 per cent higher chance of developing diabetes, 18 per cent chance of dying from heart disease or cancer and 24 per cent chance of dying from any other cause, when compared to those who sat less. The average did not change when taking exercise into consideration.
