According to experts, your nails can reveal a lot about your health. Nails are made up of a protein called keratin. If you have healthy nails, the chances of breakage will be at a minimum. Also, healthy nails do not have dents or grooves. Here are a few tips to keep your nails looking fresh and healthy.

Make sure to cut your nails regularly. File them every two or three days. Filing reduces breakage while keeping them in shape. Do not cut them too short - it may cause in growths which are painful. Soak your fingers in warm water and lemon juice once a week to strengthen your nails. If you have weak nails, choose a nail strengthener or hardener from the varieties at the market. Use daily. Keep your nails away from water as much as possible. Moisturise your nails everyday.

While getting a manicure, keep your cuticles intact. Give your nails time to breathe by keeping them free of nail polish sometimes. Cuticles protect your nails. Look out for white spots or lines on your nails. If they do not grow out on their own, see a doctor. These are an indication of a deficiency in your system.
