A study published in the Journal of Sleep Research has said that more things happen to your body after a night of less sleep than just drowsiness and bags under the eyes. The study conducted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research Society says that sleeplessness are a public health epidemic, and that adults need a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a night to stay productive and healthy.
According to the paper, these are the things that happen to your body after a night of less than six hours of sleep. Your brain will have a harder time to react. It will also have problems making decisions, concentrating and remembering things. Your eyes will be bloodshot. You will have dark circles under your eyes and your eyelids will appear droopy. Fine lines and wrinkles on your skin are also more noticeable.
Apart from the physical repercussions, there are internal effects to less sleep. Your immune system will be affected, causing it to find it harder to fight infections. Also, the metabolism will slow down in the body. This causes your appetite to increase, making you eat more calories than are necessary.
