A study published in PLOS Medicine has said that eating more fruits and non starchy vegetables helps in lesser weight gain. The study was conducted by researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Boston`s Brigham and Women`s Hospital.
The study found that increasing the intake of fruits and some vegetables led to 0.53 lb lesser gain for each extra serving daily. But starchy vegetables led to 1.13 lb (for peas) and 2.04lb (for corn) gain.
The study shows that increased intake of fruits and non starchy vegetables can prevent weight gain while also preventing obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers.
