Researchers at the St. Marys University in the US have claimed that sports drinks are necessary only during lengthy endurance exercise and not other wise. They have said that the body mechanism is equipped to cope with mild dehydration.
According to the researchers, water loss results in reduction of body weight. This reduction may have a good impact on some runners in endurance events. A study showed that one kilogram of body weight was shed for every litre of body fluid that was lost. This loss of weight resulted in better performance during the endurance event.
