A study published in the journal Epidemiology has said that using talcum powder in the genital areas increases the risk of ovarian cancer. The study was conducted by Brigham and Women`s Hospital in the UK.
The researchers studied 2041 women with ovarian cancer and 2100 who did not have the disease and asked about how they use talcum powder. They found that there was a 33 percent more risk of ovarian cancer in those who applied talc to their genitals, sanitary napkins, tampons and underwear.
Researchers feel that there must be warning labels on the talcum powder packaging. Used repeatedly, the talc can get into the vagina and the upper genital tract.
