According to the findings of National Health Accounts (NHA) estimates done in the year 2013-14, Indians spend eight times more money at private hospitals as compared to government ones, and two times more on transporting patients . The Health Ministry had recently announced the same.
While people need to spend Rs 64,628 at a private hospital, the expenditure with a government hospital is just Rs 8193 crore, as per estimates. For patient transportation services like ambulance usage, a sum of Rs 18,149 crore is spent.
Taking under consideration all the revenue sources such as government funding, private hospital expenses, etc which is Rs 88,552 crore, this is double that of what is spent at government hospital which is Rs 41,797 crore.
NHA is into monitoring the resource flow in the health system of India and gives out details of health finances.
In India, a sum of Rs 4.5 lakh crore is spent towards healthcare in 2013-14. Out of this about 3.06 lakh are spent by households.
