The Indian Weather Bureau has cautioned that the summer this year will be more intense than the average expected level.
A medical expert has advised suggestions to encounter the severe summer.
- Avoid eating chicken and dried fish (karuvadu in Tamil),
- Ensure to drink at least 5 litres of water every day.
The doctor advised further regarding the harms for the health due to the severity of summer:
As the intensity of heat gets high, there will be more perspiration. This may lead to skin complaints such as prickly heat, itching, freckles (themal in Tamil) and also measles.
Those who fail to take the required amount of water may be affected by the stone formation in kidneys.
When the intensity of heat is high, there are possibilities of children getting affected by epileptic attack or fits.
Prevention
- Drink a minimum of 5 to 7 litres of water every day. This will prevent the formation of stones in the kidney.
- Eat water-rich vegetables like cucumber and watermelon.
- Take fruit juices, tender coconut, and buttermilk,
- Avoid taking mangoes which are artificially ripened with carbide stones.
- Avoid wearing tight clothes, Instead wear loose cotton clothes.
- Avoid outings between 12 PM and 3.00 PM.
- Use an umbrella or a cap while venturing out in the hot sun.
- Do not go out without any footwear.
- Ensure taking a bath in the mornings, evenings or nights.
Diet
- Avoid eating processed food items, chicken, and dried fish.
- It is ok to take limited quantities of mutton or fish.
- Include a lot of vegetables in the diet.
Children care
- Do not take children below 5 years of age (including infants) out between 11.00 AM and 4.00 PM.
- In case it is a priority to take children out, ensure to cover them with proper clothes while taking out.
- Do not allow children to play out in the sun.
