The latest news that has come out now is poor dental health could result in diabetes in people. Dental examination must be done so that the risk for developing diabetes could be found out. This has been confirmed by a study now.

Lead author Raynald Samoa of City of Hope National Medical Health Centre, California, USA expressed his thoughts and spoke about how the relationship between worsening glucose tolerance levels and the number of missing teeth was present in the people.

It must be noted that the researchers reviewed the records of as many as 9670 adults of age 20 years and above and these adults were examined by the dentists during the national health and nutritional survey during 2009 to 2014.

It is worthy to note that the researchers analysed the BMI or body mass index and glucose tolerance states by fasting plasma glucose, 2 hour post-challenge plasma glucose plus haemoglobin A1C, established diabetes and whether the condition was treated with insulin or oral agents.

The researchers also recorded number of missing teeth, periodontal disease and found that when the glucose tolerance reduced the number of patients with missing teeth increased.

Factors like age, gender plus others like racial, ethnic group, family history of diabetes, smoking, alcohol consumption etc were considered by the researchers.
