Breast feeding women must avoid these foods compulsorily

Also called as nursing, breast feeding is feeding babies with the milk from breasts. Breastfeeding is very important for a mother because the breast milk contains all the nutrients needed for the baby.

It is brought out that by increased breast feeding deaths of 8,20,000 children below the age of 5 could be prevented. There are various benefits of breastfeeding a baby. The baby could be free from respiratory tract infections, diarrhoea, lower risks of asthma, food allergies, type-1 diabetes etc. The baby would have improved cognitive development also. Breast feeding women also get superb health benefits such as less blood loss after delivery, better shrinkage of uterus, less postpartum depression etc. It is superb to note that the breast feeding women would also have reduced risk of breast cancer, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis etc in them. A woman who breastfeeds her baby should not eat all types of foods like a normal woman.

There are certain foods that a breastfeeding woman must avoid and these are

Avoid intake of caffeine-

This is one important food that must be avoided by the breastfeeding women compulsorily. Caffeine is present in the coffee and many of us consume coffee regularly. It is revealed that the baby’s body would not be able to process caffeine like an adult body. Hence foods having caffeine must not be consumed by the breastfeeding women.

Avoid intake of alcohol-

Intake of alcohol is bad for the health is known. It is important that breastfeeding woman must not consume alcohol because as the alcohol gets into the breast milk and could cause many issues for the baby.

Avoid certain fishes with high mercury-

It is not necessary for the breastfeeding woman to avoid eating fish totally. They could consume fishes that do not have high mercury in them. The mercury could get into the milk and it could create issues for the baby so fishes with high mercury only must be avoided.

Avoid intake of citrus fruits-

We all love eating citrus fruits as these fruits are superb. Few examples are oranges, lemon, grapefruit etc. It must be taken into account that after birth the GI of a baby is immature. Intake of citrus fruits by breastfeeding women could cause irritations in babies.

Avoid dairy foods-

For the breastfed babies dairy foods are highly issue causing foods. Sometimes babies would become fussy after breastfeeding.  Hence it is better to avoid dairy foods.
