By supplying oxygen throughout the body and producing RBCs, iron plays an important role in us. Hence foods that are rich in iron content are essential for a balanced diet. It must be taken into account that deficiency of iron results in anaemia. Information is iron could be divided into 2 types namely heme iron and non-heme iron.

Most of us know that iron is present in many non-vegetarian foods like meat, poultry seafood etc. Point to be noted here is iron is also present in many vegetarian food sources and these sources could be consumed by us.

Various vegetarian sources that contain iron are

Pumpkin seeds:

It is said that consuming pumpkin seeds that are rich in iron, zinc, manganese and vitamin K are superb for the health.

Legumes:

Various examples of legumes are beans, lentils, peas etc. It must be noted that these have rich amounts of iron and other ingredients and are superb options for those who eat vegetarian foods. Legumes could be added as salads or curries r dip soups etc.

Apricots:

Apricots are available in canned, dried, cooked or in raw form and they are rich in iron content. It is revealed that 35 percent of our daily iron requirement would be got if we consume half a cup of dried apricots.

Brown rice:

Important point is an intake of brown rice would give certain benefits for us. Brown rice has high fibre content and helps in getting rid of toxins within the body. Issues like fatigue and anaemia are fought by the presence of iron in the brown rice.  

Prunes:

Prunes are dried fruits having a concentrated form of sugar and are rich in iron content. This is also one vegetarian source that could be consumed by us for the iron. Care must be taken that prunes must be consumed sparingly.
